The Singing Tips Live Show celebrates a successful year!

Benita Charles in New York City

The Singing Tips by Benita Charles Show celebrates a successful year!

On Sunday, April 9, 2017, NY-Vocalist Benita Charles celebrated one year of giving beginner singers tips to become professional singers with her live-internet based teaching series called Singing Tips Live by Benita Charles. The show airs on Saturday evenings at 8 pm on Facebook Live, Periscope and Instagram Live.

It started with an idea and a dream to share her wealth of knowledge of singing to help beginner singers become seasoned and professional while sharing their gifts to the world. While the show focuses on singing and show business, it has become so much more as it has inspired people of all walks of life to live their dreams and perfecting them.

The inspiration behind the show was inspired by the 2014 movie, Get On Up (The Story of James Brown), starring Chadwick Boseman and Dan Aykroyd. There was a particular scene in the movie where James wanted to take a more executive role in his career and his manager (portrayed by Dan Aykroyd) said, "This is show business. You take care of the show and I'll take care of the business!" James replied, "No, I will do both." That's exactly what he did. Not only was he the greatest entertainer, the hardest working man in show business and made great music, he was also a shrewd business man.

The movie inspired Benita to design her show to have a "Show part" and a "Business Part."
"The Show" Part is divided into sections such as Your Talent, Your live Performance, Your Original Music and Your Image. The "Business" Part includes Your Marketing/Promotion, Your Gigs, Your Original Music and Your Business. There are 10 tips in each section. Recent topics discussed include but not limited to equipment every singer should own, performing live in front of an audience, performance tips, writing your own songs and how to find your personal style for your our image.

In March 2017, the Tuskegee Television network started airing special 15-minute episodes of the Singing Tips by Benita Charles Show specifically designed for the network. The difference with the live show and the shows for the network is greater content. Watch on charter channel 181 in Tuskegee public access station, and on Youtube: Tuskegee Television Network Inc.

Singing Tips by Benita Charles Music - Tip #36

Your Image: Your Behavior (Your Reputation)
Today, we discussed your reputation and ways to enhance it.

Your Reputation are the beliefs and opinions that are generally held about someone or something.

3 ways to improve your reputation:

1) Dependability
-- Are you dependable? Do you show up when you say you will?
-- My grandfather use to say, "Your word is your bond!" Can people count on the words you say?

2) Punctuality
--Are you on time for your appointments and engagements? Do you value other's time? Do you allow for enough tine for your appointments?
--The famous coach Vince Lombardi was known for his punctuality. He coined the phase, Lombardi time (always arrive 15 minutes before the event). If you're your early, your on tine.  If you're on time, you're late.

3) Self-Discipline

--Self-Discipline is the ability to control and motivate yourself, stay on track and do what is right - even when you don't feel like it.
--Improve your self-discipline and you inprove your chances of success.

For this week's Singing Tips by Benita Charles Show, I received a free makeover at the Bluemercury Cosmetics Store in Tribeca, New York City by a lovely lady named Jennifer Byers. She was a representative of Bobby Brown Cosmetics. I was very pleased with the results!

Singing Tips by Benita Charles Music - Tip #35

Your Image: Communications (Your Message)

Your message is your intentions of your music to the world. It's your legacy.

** I believe as artists, we are put here for a reason: to touch the world and make it a better place through our music. Each artist has a unique gift and message.

**Benita Charles' message: To make music and entertainment that ignite passion in people to change the world. How do they change the world? They change the world by being who they are meant to be (their greatest selves) and by sharing their gifts to the world. (This is why I encourage everyone in the broadcast to live their dreams.)

3 Ways to Communicate Your Message

Today, we discussed how to communicate your message (your legacy) to the world.

1) Identify your Message
  • You must be clear on your intention and what you'd like to communicate to your fans.
  • My message: A singer who brings joy and inspire her audience to live their dreams.
 2) Incorporate your message in everything you do
  • Whether you are singing, releasing new music or speaking to an audience, your message should always be in the forefront of what you do.
  • For example, my original songs incorporate my message of inspiring my audience: We Can Make A Difference, The Freedom Song and Can I touch You There. My daily social media posts are always, inspirational, encouraging and empowering.
3) Share your message to the world
  • Continually create new music, books, blogs, motivational speeches and music services.
  • Write your autobiography (share your musical journey, experience and your life). You never know who will be changed by your life.
As Minister Angela Williams (special guest and expert on the Singing Tips with Benita Charles show #19, Oct 10, 2016) "Someone is waiting on your message!" -- Dr. Angela Williams. Your message just maybe what someone needs to hear to carry them through life!

Best wishes to you as you take your voice to the next level!

Much love,

Benita Charles Music

Today, we discussed ways of improving communications for music artists.

As an artist, you will have to communicate to your fans, business executives, venue owners, managers, your family, etc.

3 Keys things you as an artist communicate to the world:

* Your message: Your intentions of your music to the world

* Your music: Your self-expression in music

* Your marketing/promotion: Your promotional materials

3 ways of communicating:

1) Verbal: Your voice/how you speak your words and sentences/your tone of voice
-- Be confident when you speak.

2) Non-Verbal: Your body language - how you sit, stand and your gestures.
-- Be open and approachable to your fans.

3) Written: Ensure your written material is grammatically correct and error free in your marketing materials and social media posts.
--Always use a professional editor with your written content.

3 Ways to Communicate effectively:

1) Speak clearly and look people in the eye when you communicate
-- During interviews and meet and greets with fans.
-- Watch your body language: your words should match your body language.

2) Be authentic/ Be yourself
-- Express yourself freely without being crude or rude
-- Speak with confidence

3) Practice speaking in a mirror
--This will help you see what you look like to others
-- This will help you see what you need to improve on

Singing Tips by Benita Charles Music - My Audition Experience

Benita Charles in New York City

Singing Tips by Benita Charles Music - My Audition Experience

"You cannot wait for the perfect time, because there may be no such thing, sometimes you must dare to jump." -- From Law of Attraction on Twitter

"Do your best and God will do the rest." -- Benita Charles (divinely inspired)

My Audition Experience

Today, we discussed my recent audition with an event band, Here's I learned from the experience.

I recently had an audition for an event band.  Auditioning is something you have to do in order to obtain paid singing work.

I worked on two new songs I had to learn and I refreshed on an oldie-but-goodie song (a total of 3 songs). I learned the songs, rented a rehearsal studio to practice and rehearsed the songs in my sleep.  However, I almost didn't go to the audition. I didn't feel like I was ready. I didn't like how my voice sounded in rehearsal. I was doubting myself and my abilities.

After going back and forth about going to the audition, I decided to go, despite my doubts and fears, for the experience.  Also, I had worked so hard and spent money on preparing, it would have been shameful to not at least try.

Even up until it was time for me to audition, I was having so much self-doubt, I almost walked out of the audition. I made myself stay.

I auditioned and the song went so well that I got a positive response from the producer of the audition as well as others in the room. It was so encouraging and it made me realize how important it is to always push through your fears and self-doubt and do it anyway.

It was such a positive experience and I made great contacts. If I had've given into my self-doubts, I would not have gain such a valuable lesson.

I encourage you to push through your fears and pursue your dreams! If you do, you will amaze yourself!!

5 Key Take-Aways:
1) Do your best
-- Do all the things within your control to prepare (learn the songs, rehearse & build your confidence)

God will do the rest.
-- Once you audition, let it go. It's out of your hands.

2) No matter what happens, see the process through to the end! (Never, ever give up)
-- Don't listen to the negative voice in your head that tells you to give up/don't try/don't show up and leave.

3) Don't focus on the outcome, just do your best and let it go.
-- Focus on the things you can do within your control (preparing for the audition and building your confidence).

4) Celebrate your success.
-- You have to acknowledge the hard work and success that you achieve.

5) Move on and prepare for the next opportunity.
-- You can't rest on your last success. You have to continuously work to keep your talent sharp for the next audition and opportunity.

Best wishes to you as you take your voice to the next level!
